Antivirus?

my 6-month norton AV subscription ended. I was wondering what would be a good, free replacement for download. (i don't care if it will only last a year or something without paying, i just need something.)

For your anti-virus needs, I would strongly recommend Avira AntiVir庐 PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than most "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. Uses less then 10 MB RAM on my machine. And did I mention that it's free for life! Works great on my Vista box, too.

BTW, Avoid the free version of an anti-virus called AVG, it has horrible virus detection capibilities.

Enjoy!

I use AVG. The version that I use is always free. There is a version that you have to pay for, but the version that I use for free will protect your computer sufficiently. I've had it for over two years, and never had a problem with viruses. Here's the link:

Also, spybot will not fight with AVG. You do need both Spybot and an anti-virus program.
AVG Free edition is one of the very best, low key, high detection AV's around. Go to www.download.com (CNET site) and search for AVG... should be one of the first entries called AVG Free Edition... I've been using it for years now and am an IT manager.
